If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like as a sex worker, or how the words “dick cheese” can be used in perfect, horrifying context, this is the book for you. Surprising. Insightful. Don't drink liquids while reading. This is not a “Happy Hooker” story. This is a “Hooker who is sick of your bullshit” story.

This book is so healing.

Steal this book. Actually buy it, it’s easier.

I got the e-book version of PPAPIS (does that work? It does now.) when it was first released and goddamn it’s a must-read. A mix of science and smut that should be on everyone’s list with some absolute heartbreak dotted in (the emergency worker call……damn).
10/10, A*, 100%, whatever rating system works, read this book!

The book was funny, kind, and full of things I didn't know. Wish I'd had it 50 years ago!

Ridiculously Amazing

I never read non fiction and I never write reviews, but here we are. I had to tell everyone that this book is well written, well researched, and persuasive. Want an honest account of what it's like for one sex worker in the industry? Get this book. And read why sex work is work and why they should be afforded the same rights and protections as anyone else in a job based in sales.

The humor of Thor with the insight of a documentary

This book reads differently than your standard literature. The humor of it is embedded amongst thousands of fun and interesting side stories as well as deep social discussions about how we see ourselves and sex workers.
Pizza, Pincushions and Playing It Straight doesn't drown you into a world of sex, it's like sitting with a friend and talking about your life. You learn about an entire world you thought you knew but honestly didn't. Every stereotype, every assumption is challenged and replaced with the truth: we're all just people looking for a release.
This book took me on an up and down journey. There were tons of points where I had to set my phone down until I stopped laughing. Other times I was nodding in familiarity with seeing so many parallels to any other job. Occasionally, I'd be confronted with my own assumptions and biases.
There's so much more to this book than sex work.
Is there sex? Yes, but it's not graphically described like some erotica novel. It's so casual that you don't have to be "In the mood" to read it.
There's no plot to follow, no cast of characters to keep up with. Just you, the author and a new part of life that doesn't get enough thought. You can honestly open up to any part of the book and rapidly get the jist of the philosophical theme while enjoying an entertaining tale.
1500 words isn't enough to fully explain why this book deserves an award but I guarantee you this is pure gold. Thank you so much for writing this! Everyone needs this book!
